Cats are friendly to people they know and trust. They are mostly wary of strangers.
You need to learn cat etiquette.
- Never stare at a cat you don’t know. Focusing a lot of attention on them feels threatening to them.
- The cat should be in control of everything.
- Never approach a strange cat. They should always approach you.
- If kitty approaches you, you can hold out a fist at kitty head height. Don’t move the fist toward the cat. Let the cat approach the fist if they want. They can smell it to get information about you, and they can rub up against it.
- Never pet a cat you don’t know. Let the cat pet themselves on your fist.
- If kitty isn’t interested in interacting, ignore the cat and focus on being in a good mood, and not being loud or making fast or large movements. Let kitty see that you’re a chill person who isn’t threatening.
